Improvement work creates space for teens

A new teen area has been installed at Milton Rec, as part of a £48,000 refurbishment of play equipment.

Swale Borough Council has installed the new equipment at the recreation ground as part of an ongoing programme of improvements to play areas that is helping children and young people across the borough get active and have more fun.

Cllr David Simmons, cabinet member for environment and rural affairs at the council, said:

"We’ve committed to investing £500,000 on parks and open spaces over the next four years, and we’re developing a rolling programme of refurbishments to improve a number of play areas across the borough.

"Traditional play equipment is targeted more towards younger children, helping them get active and enjoy being outside. Whilst that is important, we also need to make sure we can offer something for teenagers who want somewhere to go and have fun with their friends.

"This new equipment is tailored towards giving teenagers something interesting to enjoy and stay active which is vital for their health and wellbeing, so it’s really wonderful to see these improvements being made."

The newly installed equipment includes:

The work has been paid for with money from nearby developments, and is in addition to the £500,000 the council has committed to invest in parks and open spaces.

Works to refurbish the children’s play area are due to begin next week.
