Final deep clean of 2017

Do it online

Thursday 14 December

Swale Borough Council’s final deep clean of year took place this week

The council’s deep clean programme sees crews visiting streets identified as needing an intensive clear up to remove litter, leaves and detritus, as well as clearing back the edges of weeds.

Cllr Simmons, cabinet member for environment and rural affairs at the council, said:

"Our street cleaning crews do a great job, but due to things like parked cars, they can’t always easily access the roadside.

"Our deep cleans ask people to park elsewhere for a few hours so we can get in there and clear the litter and debris.

"These wouldn’t work without the cooperation of the local residents, and their positive reaction shows that by working together we can make a difference."

This year the crews have been out 28 times, and have cleaned more than 13 miles of road across Sheerness, Sittingbourne and Faversham.

Residents are warned in advance that the works will be taking place, so cars can be moved to allow the crews to get to areas usually inaccessible to the regular street cleaning team.

The deep clean programme will be running again in 2018. To find out more, visit www.swale.gov.uk/litter
