Managing Our Performance


Performance management is really just good management. It is about how we consistently plan and manage improvements to our services.

In Swale we have a four-year Corporate Plan, which sets out medium-term priorities and strategic objectives. This informs operational service planning, which takes place annually. Progress in achieving agreed objectives is reported to councillors and senior managers quarterly.

Aligned with the corporate plan is a set of around 40 corporate performance indicators. Targets for these indicators are set annually by full council. Targets generally reflect our aspiration for our services to perform among the best 25% of councils in the country. Corporate indicators are monitored at least quarterly, with outturns being reported to councillors and senior managers through regular performance reports. Our aim is always to have achieved target on 85% of corporate indicators by year end.
