Take a bike out for a spin, join the new car club, and teach the kids how to improve air quality for the first annual KentAir week.

KentAir week runs from Monday, 25 April to Sunday, 1 May and includes the launch of Swale Borough Council’s new car club in Faversham, Faversham Town Council’s bike hire trial and DEFRAs interactive kid’s game Pollution Patrol.

KentAir week is a new annual campaign launched by councils in Kent to encourage people to get involved in the fight to improve air quality.

Cllr Tim Valentine, cabinet member for the climate and ecological emergency at the council, said:

“We’ve joined up with Kent councils to launch a week of awareness bringing attention to the ways that people can help us improve air quality in Swale.

“We’ll be launching our new car club trial with Hiyacar in Faversham on Wednesday (27 Apr) and Faversham Town Council are launching their new bike hire trial on Thursday (28 Apr) thanks to our funding.

“We’ll also be sharing a free interactive digital program with schools called Pollution Patrol including games and immersive 360-degree stories to help children understand pollution and its effects on air quality.

“I encourage people to sign up to alerts from the KentAir website which shows real time information about what pollutants are in your local area.

“It’s especially helpful if you suffer from asthma, or any chronic condition that is effected by poor air quality, to know what days or times of day might be worse for you to exercise or spend time outdoors.

“We know that people are really doing their bit to help improve air quality in Swale, and KentAir week gives us an opportunity to shine a light on what we can all do to make a difference.”

Hiyacar hybrid cars can be found at Central Car Park, Queens Hall Car Park and Institute Road Car Park in Faversham.

Electric and manual bikes can be found at Macknade, Standard Quay and East Street in Faversham.

Pollution Patrol launches on Monday, 25 April at 9.30am. For more information visit (available once launched).
