A message from the Mayor of Swale, Councillor Simon Clark:

“We will stand together on Armistice Day (11 Nov) and Remembrance Sunday (13 Nov) to remember the people who have lost their lives in armed conflict throughout the years, and to remember those whose lives have been forever changed while defending our rights.

“I will attend the Annual Remembrance Service at the Sittingbourne War Memorial on Remembrance Sunday to lay a wreath on behalf of the people of Swale, and the Deputy Mayor and Swale Councillors will represent the council at services and acts of remembrance throughout the borough.

“Remembrance services are emotional occasions, especially for those personally affected, and although the World Wars are now history, we can never repay the debt to those who fought for us. I hope that families across Swale will attend events to remember both friends and family members who have lost their lives.

“Alongside Remembrance Day services, I will also be attending the Sheerness Branch of the British Legion’s service and wreath laying at the Cross of Sacrifice at the Halfway Cemetery on Armistice Day to mark the anniversary of the signing of the Armistice in 1918.

“I urge all of you to remember those who have lost their lives in armed warfare defending our country and our freedom by wearing a poppy with pride, displaying your gratitude and raising money for people affected by warfare”.
