Faversham Pools has a brand-new heating system thanks to a £93,000 grant from Swale Borough Council, as well as grants from Sport England and Viridor Credits Environmental Company.

The new system includes two new energy-efficient boilers that will heat water for the indoor and outdoor pools, as well as the showers.

The cutting-edge technology will also cut carbon emissions by one-third and save the charity money.

Cllr Roger Truelove, leader of the council and cabinet member for finance, said:

“We are pleased to help Faversham Pools with the money they needed to install the new energy-efficient boilers and heating system.

“We make £1 million available every year for special projects around the borough, and this is the perfect example of how important funding is for local projects that are good for the environment and good for people’s health and wellbeing.”

Geoff Wade, chairman of Faversham Swimming Pools Management Committee Ltd, said:

“Faversham Pools are delighted to have raised the full funds needed to install the new energy-efficient heating system.

“An effective and reliable system is crucial to our daily operation and we are grateful to Swale Borough Council, Sport England and Viridor Credits for their generous support.

“We look forward to operating with greater reliability, reduced running costs and big reductions in COemissions.

“We can now plan the next stages of our refurbishment with confidence.”

Cllr Angela Harrison, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at the council, said:

“We know how important the pools are to the local and wider community.

“People travel from all over the county, and sometimes further, to make the most of the pools, especially the outdoor pool during the summer months.

“We are happy to support this well-loved public amenity to ensure it can be maintained for future generations to come.”

Faversham Pools is a registered charity that receives an annual grant of £100,000 from the council towards its running costs in recognition of its valuable role in the local community.

The new boilers and heating system were funded by Swale Borough Council, Viridor Credits Environmental Company and Sport England’s Community Asset Fund.
