New state of the art gym equipment has been installed at Faversham Rec to help people to get active.

Swale Borough Council has contributed £17,000 to install the new equipment as part of the £1.9 million investment at the popular recreational ground.

The modern equipment, installed by The Great Outdoor Gym Company (TGO), includes a smart energy hand bike, recumbent bike, cross trainer and spin bike which allows users to track and record their workouts using the TGO app on their phones.

The lateral pull-down and shoulder press, pull up and assisted pull up, and dip and leg raise machines are doubled-sided and can be used solo or in tandem, and the leg press, bench and multi-use rig with monkey bars and parallel balancing beams can be used in an endless variety of ways.

Cllr Angela Harrison, cabinet member for health and wellbeing at the council, said:

“This is a great milestone for the renovations of the Rec and we’re pleased to see the project moving along.

“The gym includes 10 pieces of equipment so there’s something for everybody.

“It was important for us to install equipment that was suitable for all ages and abilities, including those that are less mobile.

“The smart hand bike and multi-use rig are also suitable for wheelchair users.

“The gym is now open for residents and visitors to use and we hope they enjoyed themselves as much as we did.”

Cllr Eddie Thomas, chairman of the Faversham Rec project board, said:

“We hope local families and visitors enjoy the new equipment and that it helps people stay active and mobile all year round.

“We chose this equipment to suit all ages and fitness levels and are pleased to see how well it’s turned out.

“We’ve been working hard to refurbish the Rec and improve facilities for local people, and we’re excited to re-open the park later this year.

“The new outdoor gym is a great addition for local users of the park, and we’re pleased it’s now open for people to try.”

Georgie Delaney, managing director of the great outdoor gym company, said:

“Everyone is welcome to get active at the Faversham Rec TGO gym – it’s inclusive for beginners through to fitness pros.

“By making physical activity part of everyday life, we can all improve our wellbeing and reduce the risk of chronic disease.

“If you’re new to physical activity, even five minutes is a great start.”

The project is funded by Swale Borough Council, Heritage FundNational Lottery Community Fund, Viridor Credits and Faversham Municipal Charities.
