This year’s Civic Service of Remembrance is being organised by a Remembrance Sunday Event Organising Group, led by Richard Emmett, chair of the Historical Research Group of Sittingbourne. Proceedings will start at St Michael’s Church in the High Street and continue on to the Sittingbourne War Memorial on Sunday, 13 November.
Individuals and organisations wishing to attend the service should arrive by 09.45am for the church service. There will then be a parade from the church up to the War memorial. All welcome to gather at 10.45am in the vicinity of the War Memorial in Central Avenue.
The car park at Central Avenue will be closed all morning for the service. Alternative parking, which will be free in all Council car parks on Remembrance Sunday, is available nearby in Albany Road, Swallows Leisure Centre and other town centre car parks.
The Mayor of Swale Cllr Simon Clark will be supported by Reverend David Ridley, Team Vicar for St Michaels Church Sittingbourne and Royal British Legion Chaplain Mrs Pat Tatchell, Benefice of Tunstall and Bredgar together with the Salvation Army (Sittingbourne Corp).
To manage the risks of spreading COVID-19, if you have symptoms of a respiratory infection, and have a high temperature please stay at home and avoid contact with other people,
There will be an opportunity for all to lay wreaths and personal tributes at the end of the formal service.
Please note there will be an organised Royal British Legion Riders salute-ride past following the wreath laying.
