Getting an Enhanced Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) Check

Use this service if you’re an existing taxi or private hire driver and your Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check is due.

To apply for an enhanced DBS check, email the licensing team taxis@swale.gov.uk to request a link to the DBS form.

You should email all your supporting documents to us at taxis@swale.gov.uk, including:

  • proof of address
  • driving licence
  • National Insurance (NI) number
  • passport

You need to pay £70 for the DBS which you can do either by:

DBS Certificate

The DBS Certificate will only be returned to your address. It does not come to us.

Therefore, when you receive the Certificate, the licensing team will need to see it.

You should send the original certificate to the Licensing team by post or drop at the reception of Swale House (please make sure to mark it for the attention of the Taxi department)

DBS Update Service

One you have received the DBS Certificate it is mandatory for you to join the DBS Update Service. The easiest way to do this is by visiting the DBS website.

If you do not join the DBS Update, you will need to pay for another £70 to apply for another DBS in 6 months’ time.

It is your responsibility to check if your current DBS Update service subscription is still working.

In the event that you change the following, you should update your record on the DBS Update Service to reflect those changes.

  • name or address
  • bank card
