Community Infrastructure Grants

We've set up the community infrastructure grant scheme.

Grants are available for capital investment only and will prioritise investment for community benefit.

We will award grants of between £1,000 and £10,000 to organisations to cover no more than 75% of the costs of the works.  In most cases, expenditure should be completed within the same financial year as the application has been submitted.

This is a discretionary grant scheme, and all decisions are based on our assessment of applications, to determine if the required criteria are met.

For carbon reduction measures, this will include contact with a Council appointed expert contractor, who will provide both support to applicants, and advise the Council on individual applications.

Who can apply

The grant scheme is open to not-for-profit organisations that provide community facilities and amenities within Swale.

This includes unincorporated associations such as voluntary and community groups, incorporated organisations such as registered charities, companies limited by guarantee and social enterprises.

We are not currently accepting applications from urban Sittingbourne as we are over-subscribed for our allocation for this area.

If you are not sure if your project would take place within this area, please contact the grants team to clarify.

You can still apply if you are based in urban Sittingbourne, but we will add your application to a waiting list until further funding becomes available within the scheme.

What you can apply for

Under the themes of the grant, examples of projects could include:

  • warm and sustainable, for example grants for insulation, green power or LED lighting in community facilities
  • fit for purpose, for example alterations, improvements and new facilities
  • digitally connected, for example fast broadband and Wi-Fi
  • welcome and work, for example café development or creating or improving meeting and workspace
  • mobility, for example electric vehicle charging points or bike storage

If you would like further advice on this scheme and how it will be applied, please contact the Economic Development Programme and Strategic Asset Management team at prosperityfund@swale.gov.uk.

How to apply

Please make sure that you read the guidance notes (PDF 374KB) for the grant scheme before you apply, to understand the full criteria for the scheme.

You can apply by completing the Community Infrastructure Grant application form (PDF 352KB), and then email the form to prosperityfund@swale.gov.uk.

If the grant scheme becomes oversubscribed, we may close the grant scheme early to new applications.
