We are very sorry to all those affected by delays to waste, recycling and garden collections as the crews get used to new routes and vehicles. We are working with Suez to improve the situation, and we’re providing updates with latest information.

The Swale Voluntary Alliance (SVA) will be hosting two events for local charities to network and collaborate this month.

Voluntary and Community Sector (VCS) organisations of any size are welcome to attend the events, with the aim being sharing knowledge to find solutions to the issues they are facing.

This is the first step the SVA are taking towards their mission to support the sector to become stronger together, the event aims to kickstart collaborative working and resource sharing.

Swale Borough Council provided £125,000 to SVA who will work towards ensuring the future financial stability of the local VCS in the borough.

The funding, which came from the Government’s UK Shared Prosperity Fund, aims to invest in communities, support local businesses and help people by promoting skills.

The first event took place on Monday 19 February in Sittingbourne.

The other two events will be:

  • Thursday 29 February at 9:30am-12:30pm at West Faversham Community Centre, Faversham
  • Friday 1 March at 9:30am-12:30pm at Dockyard Church, Sheerness

To attend you will have to book your space, which are limited, and will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, with lunch being provided.

Book your space on one of the events on the Medway Voluntary Action website.

Cllr Richard Palmer, Chair of the Community Committee, said:

“Charities are incredibly important to us, they offer invaluable support to the most vulnerable in our community, and work closely with and are trusted by those in need.

“We have always strived to have a good relationship with the VCS in Swale, working collaboratively to help make Swale a better place for all.

“The funding we provided to Swale Voluntary Alliance shows that we are committed to supporting the sector and giving them the opportunities to become sustainable and financially resilient.

“Our new draft corporate plan outlines a need to create good relationships with our sectors and enhance our community, and this initiative is a positive step towards those goals.

“Any charities of any size are welcome to book their free slot and meet with other people in the sector, share ideas, problem solve and discuss their joint futures.”
