East Kent Colleges Group (EKC) unveiled their plans for the Sheppey College which, if approved, would deliver circa 1,000m2 of new teaching space.

The proposed extension is one element of the £20 million Sheerness Revival project.

The new education wing would provide training and vocational study opportunities.

EKC have also developed a new curriculum which will focus on 16-19-year-olds.

The other schemes that make up Sheerness Revival are creating new and improved leisure and health facilities at Beachfields and refurbishing the Masters House site to provide space to support young people to start their own businesses.

Cllr Monique Bonney, chair of the regeneration and property committee, said:

“The Sheerness Revival project aims to improve important social infrastructure to create better opportunities for people in Sheerness and further afield.

“This application is an exciting next step for the project and we are grateful to everyone who provided feedback at the consultation.

“As with all planning applications it now needs to be assessed on its own merits to make sure the plans are suitable.

“If it is approved, this could go a long way towards improving educational outcomes for local young people, which is exactly the kind of legacy we want for Sheerness Revival.

The planning application has now been submitted to the council’s planning team for consideration.
