Burial Fees

There is no charge for the burial of a child’s coffin, under the age of 18. This is subject to the criteria of the Children's Funeral Fund (CFF) for England.

The fees on this page will be double if the person was not a resident of Swale at the time of their death and they had not lived in Swale for 15 consecutive years at some point during their lifetime.

Coffin burials and burial of cremated remains include, as required:

  • exclusive Right of Burial
  • interment
  • memorial and re-inscription permits

Sittingbourne, Faversham or Murston

You’ll need to pay:

  • £1982 for the first burial or £982 if you’ve already brought a grave but haven’t used it
  • £816 for a second burial
  • £675 for a third burial

Iwade and Isle of Sheppey

You’ll need to pay:

  • £1,817 for the first burial or £796 if a grave was already purchased but it wasn’t used
  • £675 for a second burial

Burying cremated remains

You’ll need to pay:

  • £608 for the first burial or £221.40 if you’ve already brought a grave but haven’t used it
  • £221.40 for a second, third or fourth burial
  • £102.50 for the burial of loose ashes

Other services

You’ll need to pay:

  • £1,640 to exhume a coffin
  • £304.40 to exhume cremated remains
  • £164 extra for a large coffin or casket which measures 30 inches or more, including handle
  • £120.90 for the use of the chapel in Faversham
  • £89.10 for the use of the chapel in Sittingbourne
  • £63.60 for the issue of a letter of confirmation where deed is lost
  • £63.50 to transfer the ownership of a grave
  • £31.70 per grave for grave search and certificate

Fees for a turfed grave and additional services are charged at cost price.
