The Self-Build and Custom Housebuilding Act 2015 (as amended by the Housing and Planning Act 2016) requires the Council to keep a register of individuals and associations of individuals who are seeking to acquire serviced plots of land within Swale for their own self-build and custom housebuilding. By signing up, you will help us find out more about the demand for self-build and custom housebuilding plots within the borough, where people would like their plot to be and the type of house they would like to build. This does not mean that we will be able to provide plots of land that specifically meet your requirements, but that the level of demand will be taken into account when carrying out our planning, housing, land disposal and regeneration functions. We will report the general level of demand in our Annual Monitoring Report.

Use this service to register your interest in serviceable land to use for building a house.

Who is eligible to be included on the register?

Individuals or associations can be included on the register.

An individual is eligible for entry on the register if that individual is:

aged 18 or older;
a British citizen; a national of an EEA State other than the United Kingdom, or a national of Switzerland; and
seeking (either alone or with others) to acquire a serviced plot of land for their own self-build and custom housebuilding.

An association is eligible for entry on the register if each member of that association meets all of the eligibility requirements set out above.

How to register

Please include the following information if you are applying as an individual:

your name, address, date of birth and nationality;
the size of the plot you are interested in;
confirmation that you are seeking (either alone or with others) to acquire a serviced plot of land for your own self-build and custom housebuilding;
the general location within Swale where you would like to build; and
the type of house you would like to build.

Please include the following information if you are applying as an association:

the name and address of the association;
the name and address, date of birth and nationality of each member of the association;
confirmation that each member of the association is seeking (either alone or with others) to acquire a serviced plot of land for their own self-build and custom housebuilding;
the name and address (if different from the address of the association) of the lead contact; and
the number of serviced plots of land the members of the association are seeking to acquire.
