Armed Forces Covenant

Introduction

The Armed Forces Covenant was published in May 2011 by Central Government and is a commitment that has been made in recognition of the sacrifices made by those who serve or have served on behalf of the country. It is designed to ensure that our Armed Forces Personnel, Veterans and their families are treated fairly and have the same access to services as the civilian community has.

Swale Borough Council signed a Community Covenant on 4 March 2014. This is a voluntary statement of mutual support between the civilian community and any serving member, or former member, of the Armed Forces and their families who reside in the Swale Area.

Swale Borough Council aims to:

  • support the principles of the Armed Forces Covenant
  • ensure that our Armed Forces community has equal access to services
  • provide information on any charitable organisations or support organisations

Every Council has a role in supporting its Armed Forces community. Whilst Swale does not have an active Armed Forces presence, there are many veterans and families residing in the Borough as well as families of current serving personnel.

The community Covenant is a voluntary statement of mutual support between the Swale civilian community and the Armed Forces community in Swale area.
