Planning Validation Checklist

This consultation closes on Tuesday 21 October.

The planning validation requirements set out the plans and documents you must submit with your planning application so it can be registered.

A draft of our planning validation requirements (PDF 414KB) has been produced in accordance with Paragraph 44 of the National Planning Policy Framework (NPPF), which advises that local planning authorities should publish a list of their information requirements for applications submitted for planning permission.

There are two types of planning validation requirements:

National validation requirements are the same for all local planning authorities in England.

National Planning Policy Guidance sets out a three-step process for preparing and revising local validation requirements. We must:

  1. review the existing requirements
  2. consult on any proposed changes
  3. publish the revised validation requirements on our website

Summary of changes

We're proposing to:

  • amend the current (2024) version of our local requirements specifically A5 and A6
  • add new requirements A16, A17 and B27, which are applicable to planning applications made to Maidstone Borough Council

Amendments

We're proposing to amend A5 and A6, which apply to planning applications submitted to both Maidstone and Swale borough councils:

  • A5: Site Specific Flood Risk Assessment – new requirement added Age of Documents.
  • A6: Ecological/Protected Species Survey - new requirement added Age of Documents.

Additions

We're proposing to add requirements A16 and A17 and B27.

The additions of requirements A16 and A17 are as a result of a consultation which was published earlier this year (HMO SPD Parking Requirements).

Further information about these additions is available from HMO SPD - MBC Local Plan.

In addition, we're proposing to add a new requirement - B27: Building for Life, which is only applicable to planning applications submitted to Maidstone Borough Council.

What happens next

When this consultation closes, we'll consider all comments and produce a final report with our responses. An updated local validation checklist will then be published.
