Register a food business
Use this service to register a food business that sells, stores or cooks food or drink for sale directly or indirectly to the public.
You should register a minimum of 28 days before you start trading.
Before you get started
You can register a food business on the Food Standards Agency’s website. You’ll need the:
- address of the business you’re registering, including post code
- name of the business name you’re registering
- name of the company, if it’s different from the business name
What happens next
Once we’ve received your application to register a food business we’ll arrange a food safety inspection.
The food safety inspection will be unannounced unless there are difficulties accessing the premises, for example if you’re a home caterer.
The food safety inspection should take place within 28 days of you starting to trade, however you can start to trade without having had your food safety inspection as long as you have registered as a food business.
