Charging a fare for a journey in a Hackney Carriage or Private Hire Vehicle
If your vehicle has a hackney carriage licence, you'll need to:
- fit an approved fare meter
- display a table of fares where passengers can see it
- charge passengers certain fees for their journeys
If your vehicle has a private hire licence, you don't need to fit a fare meter and you can set your own prices for journeys.
Fees
For a complete journey in a hackney carriage licensed vehicle, you can charge a passenger up to:
- £3 for journeys of up to 200 metres
- £3 for between 200 metres and 400 metres
- 10 pence for every 88 metres, in whole or in part, travelled after the first 400 metres
