Animal licensing
Premises inspection
Once you’ve applied for an animal licence, you’ll receive an inspection from one of our inspecting officers and in some cases an independent vet. We will asses the level of risk at your premises and if a licence is granted, the risk rating will determine the star rating you will receive, which will be between one and five stars.
New premises will only receive a maximum of four stars.
The risk rating you receive will help to determine how much your licence will cost and how long the licence will last for. Premises with a risk rating of:
- 1 to 2 stars will receive a licence for one year
- 3 to 4 stars will receive a licence for two years
- 5 stars will receive a licence for three years
Licenses to train or exhibit animals last for three years, regardless of the risk rating for the premises.
You’ll receive a premises inspection from us each year.
