Getting Permission to put Furniture on the Street

Renew a pavement licence

Use this service to renew an existing pavement licence. There's a separate process if you're applying for the first time.

You’ll need to pay £350 to renew a pavement licence.

Before you get started

To renew an existing pavement licence you need to:

  1. follow the conditions
  2. download and complete a public notice (PDF 209KB)
  3. take a photo of the public notice, clearly displayed in the window of your premises, where passers-by can see it
  4. complete our online form
  5. make a payment of £350

You'll also need to email the following to our Licensing team at licensing@swale.gov.uk:

  • the photo you’ve taken of the public notice
  • a plan, showing us where you're going to put your furniture
  • evidence of suitable public liability insurance
  • a risk assessment showing how you'll manage pedestrians using the footway, those using the tables, and those queuing to access the premises

What happens next

Once we’ve received your application and payment, we'll hold a public consultation before we make a decision. We'll contact you within 28 days of receiving your application.

We won’t accept another application for the same premises within seven days following the end of the consultation.
