Before you apply

We will only consider making changes to a road’s name under exceptional circumstances, including where it:

  • might have an inappropriate name
  • might have had a negative historical significance
  • has a spelling mistake
  • has been registered incorrectly on the land registry

Fee

You’ll need to pay a fee before we can progress with your application.

After you’ve applied

Once you’ve made an application to change the name of an existing road, we may consult with appropriate parish councils and councillors.

Consultations can take up to six weeks.
