Neighbourhood planning
Introduction to neighbourhood planning
Neighbourhood plans give communities direct power to plan the areas they live in.
Parish councils and neighbourhood forums can use neighbourhood plans to:
- develop a shared vision for their neighbourhood
- set planning policies for the development and use of land
- give planning permission for specified developments in a neighbourhood area including certain types of household extensions, shop fronts and renewable energy proposals
Further information and advice about neighbourhood plans can be found on the Locality website. The Neighbourhood Planning Roadmap on Locality's website provides an easy to use guide to help groups understand neighbourhood planning.
Help on Neighbourhood Planning is also available in a guidance note (PDF 701.84kb) on community led plans prepared by the Kent Planning and Housing Officers Group.
