Licensing a temporary Taxi or Private Hire vehicle

Apply and pay
Use this service if you’ve had to take a licensed taxi or private hire vehicle out of use because it needs repairing, following an accident, and you want to use another vehicle while it’s being repaired.
To apply for a temporary licence, you’ll need to:
- download, complete and return a form (PDF 337KB)
- pay a fee
- send us the temporary vehicle’s log book, MOT certificate and the results of an approved garage inspection as well as proof of insurance
Once you’ve completed your application form, you’ll need to email it our Taxi Licensing team at taxis@swale.gov.uk, together with the vehicle’s log book, MOT certificate and the results of an approved garage inspection as well as proof of insurance.
Pay the fee
You’ll need to pay £40 to apply for a temporary licence. You can pay for your licence online. You’ll need:
- your existing vehicle’s licence number
- a debit or credit card
What happens next
Once we’ve received your application and fee, we’ll process it. If your application is successful, we’ll let you know when your vehicle plate is ready to be fitted.
