Use of Artificial Intelligence (AI)

The Council may use approved Artificial Intelligence (AI) tools, such as Microsoft Copilot, to support staff in carrying out administrative tasks, drafting communications, and improving service delivery. AI tools are used to assist staff and are not used to make decisions about individuals or to process personal data for purposes beyond those for which it was originally collected. All outputs generated using AI tools are reviewed and approved by appropriately trained staff.

The Council does not deliberately input personal data into unapproved AI tools. Where AI functionality is used within approved systems, such as email or document management, limited personal data may be accessed as part of normal system operation.

The Council uses AI in a transparent and accountable manner, in line with its policies and legal obligations. The Council remains responsible for all personal data processing.
