Make a complaint about a Landlord
Use this service if you you want to make a complaint about a private landlord under the Renters' Rights Act.
You can use this service to make a complaint about the landlord of a House in Multiple Occupation (HMO) too.
If your complaint is about keeping pets, you'll need to send your complaint to the Private Rented Sector Ombudsman instead.
Before you get started
You can use this service to complain if you think your landlord has committed an offence by not following the law set out under the Renters' Rights Act, including:
- failure to give a written statement of terms which could include important information about your tenancy
- attempting to let on a fixed term, end a tenancy without using a valid Section 8 notice, let a property without stating the rent in the advert or encouraging or accepting an amount higher the advertised rent
- discrimination against potential tenants who have children or are in receipt of benefits
- re-letting or remarketing a property after using a Section 8 notice to regain possession for sale or occupation by the landlord or a family member of landlord
- illegal eviction or harassment
- offences in relation to licensing of a House in Multiple Occupation
- not complying with an Improvement notice
- breach of a banning order
There is a different process if you think your landlord has charged you for something they shouldn't have.
