Sheerness conservation area consultations

People can now have their say on two conservation areas in Sheerness.

As part of the Council's ongoing overhaul of the Borough's Conservation Areas and Heritage Strategy, Swale Borough Council is reviewing the existing conservation areas of Sheerness Marine Town and Sheerness Mile Town and wants the views of local people and groups.

Marine Town covers a stretch of Marine Parade and includes sections of Ebenezer Mews and Alma Street. Mile Town covers an area around the high street and Broadway, including the north of Trinity Road.

Cllr Mike Baldock, Swale's Heritage Champion, said:

“We’ve committed to regularly reviewing important conservation areas across the borough.

“We already reviewed several of our local conservation areas and have made a number of changes to include some historic parts of the borough that we felt needed protecting.

“We are proposing extending the conservation area in Mile Town by including a small portion of Rose Street and the entire curtilage of the water tower.

“In Marine Town we’re proposing extending the boundary to include three listed buildings, along with a stretch of Alma Road, and a section of Alma Street.

“We want to get genuine feedback about the proposals - are the boundaries in the right place? Do we need to have additional controls in place?

“Sheerness has a proud history and heritage that we want to make sure is being preserved and protected as well as possible.”
