Request a loading bay

Use this service if you’re a business and you want to install a bay that allows you to load and unload goods near your premises.

A loading bay can’t be used for parking and restrictions may be in place to prevent loading and unloading at certain times.

If your request is successful, you’ll need to pay a fee. The fee you’ll pay will be based on the circumstances of your request. The fee can range from £500 to £1,000.

It can take up to 12 months to install a loading bay.

Before you get started

To request a loading bay, you’ll need to email our engineering team at engineers@swale.gov.uk. You’ll need to include:

  • the address of your premises
  • a description of the location you want to install the loading bay
  • your reason for wanting a loading bay

You can also include information about any problems that you’ve experienced because you haven’t got a bay, like difficulties loading and unloading.

For alternative ways to contact the engineering team, you can visit our contact us page.

What happens next

Once we’ve received your request, we’ll:

  • respond within 14 working days
  • run a public consultation

If your request is successful, your request will be passed to the Joint Transportation Board (JTB) for their consideration.

If your request is successful, you’ll receive an invoice to pay the for the bay.
