Speaking at a planning committee meeting

Speaking

You must arrive by 6:45pm on the day you’re due to speak.

A Council officer will meet you and explain the procedure for speaking.

You’ll have three minutes to speak when it’s your turn. You shouldn’t say anything that:

  • is disrespectful
  • could damage someone’s reputation
  • is false, even if you think it’s true

You could face legal action if you do.

When it’s your turn to speak, the Chairman will call out your name and you’ll be invited to sit on the Chairman’s bench.

After you’ve spoken

Once you’ve spoken, you can return to the public gallery and listen to the debate but you won’t be able to speak again.
