Street Knowledge Test (SKT) for new Taxi and Private Hire drivers
Chapters in this topic
On the day of your test
The street knowledge test (SKT) lasts up to one and a half hours but you can leave early if you’ve answered all the questions.
You can’t bring calculators or maps into the test with you.
Arriving
You’ll need to arrive at the reception at Swale House, Sittingbourne no later than 9:45am on the day of your test. If you’re late, you might not be able to take part.
Lifts and disabled access are available at Swale House.
Once you’ve arrived at reception, you’ll receive a visitors pass and an officer from our Licensing team will meet you to take you to the test.
Taking the test
You’ll take the SKT on a computer. If you’re not confident using a computer, we will show you what you need to do.
As part of the test, you’ll be shown a video about safeguarding and then asked some questions on it. Other questions relate to:
- landmarks
- the shortest route between two points
- the Highway Code
- our Taxi Policy
- safeguarding
- basic maths
For more information on the parts of the Street Knowledge Test, you can download Appendix G of the Taxi Licensing Policy.
After the test
Once you’ve completed the SKT, we’ll process your answers. If you’ve passed, we’ll continue processing your licence application. If you’ve failed, we’ll write to you to let you know.
You can take the test again if you’ve failed. You’ll need to book pay again.
