Planning permission in conservation areas

Conservation areas have special protection under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990.

When an area is designation a conservation area, we have extra controls over:

  • demolition
  • minor developments
  • protection of trees

Applying for planning permission

You'll  need to apply for planning permission to:

  • totally or substantially demolish a building
  • make minor alterations, including extensions or alterations to roofs
  • erect dormer windows
  • install a satellite dish

You can submit a pre-application consultation for planning permission.

New developments
