Introduction
You may need an environmental permit from us under the Environmental Permitting (England and Wales) Regulations 2016 if your premises use machinery or processes that produce or handle harmful substances like dry cleaners, petrol station or cement works .

If you don’t get a permit, you could receive a fine or be sent to prison.

An environmental permit lasts until it’s:
- surrendered
- revoked
Fees
The fee you’ll pay will depend on the:
- type of operation you’re carrying out
- the risk your facility presents
- the number of permits you need
Annual fee
You’ll need to pay an annual fee to help us maintain your permit, which includes routinely reviewing it. The fee you’ll pay will depend on the type of operation you’re carrying out and the risk your facility presents.
If you don't pay your annual fee on time, you could receive a late payment fee of £52.
