Major Emergencies

Pet and animal welfare

We recommend that you have a plan ready to ensure that your pets are cared for in case you’re evacuated from your home during a major emergency.

Taking action

You can download our guide (PDF 117kb) for advice on what to do with your pets, larger animals and livestock, during a major emergency .

Animal welfare establishments

If you run an animal welfare establishment, like a pet shop, kennel or cattery, you should plan what needs to happen to the animals in your care if there is a major emergency.

You can download our Contingency Plan template (PDF 134kb) which helps you decide what you’ll need to do in an emergency and who’s responsible.
