Housing Register
Waiting times
As at 31 March 2026 there were 2069 active households on the housing register.
There are usually approximately 400 properties a year which become available.
We are unable to give an accurate timescale and can only give an estimate based on the average waiting time of applicants who have been housed. Waiting times for a flat or maisonette are usually shorter than those waiting for a bungalow or house.
Based on lets Between 1 April 2025 and 31 March 2026:
- One bed need waiting for older person accommodation (aged 55 plus):
- Band A average 1 year
- Band B average 1 year
- Band C average 18 months
- 1 to 3 bedroom:
- Band A average 1 year
- Band B average 2 years
- 4 bedroom:
- Band A average 1 year
- Band B average 5 years
The waiting times will be longer for those who need a fully adapted property or those households who are a 4 bedroom need or more.
We have an allocations policy to ensure those with the highest need take priority.
Due to demand, those in Band C and below are unlikely to receive an offer of social housing in the for foreseeable future despite having a housing need.
For applicants who are already in social housing we would advise to also look for a mutual exchange.
For applicants not in social housing already we would advise to look for accommodation in the private rented sector.
We can only recommend that you continue to consider all options including a move to an area where housing is more affordable.
