Smoke and carbon monoxide detectors

You must install:

  • at least one smoke alarm on every storey of each property
  • a carbon monoxide detector in any room that includes a solid fuel burning appliance, like a wood burning stove or a coal fire

If you don’t follow these rules, you could receive a fine of up to £5,000.
